Satellite Photogrammetry
The research in the area of satellite photogrammetry mainly focuses on studying basic satellite photogrammetry theories and developing new mapping technologies. The research themes include: satellite sensor geometric models, imagery geometric characteristic analysis, image rectification, image matching, DEM generation, DOM production, imagery geometric error simulation analysis, theories of computer stereovision and photogrammetry, etc.
Among the main research topics, in this area, one is satellite imagery mapping technologies, which would be applied in an important state program, Mapping West Part of China at the scale of 1:50,000. The main objective of this program is to map 2,000,000 sq kms in western China within 2006 – 2010, where the topographic maps at the scale of 1:50,000 are still unavailable. Considering the severe environment in such areas, satellite photogrammetry, based on high resolution optical satellite imagery and SAR imagery, would be the main economical way to produce topographic maps at the desirable scale; and the main practical method to overcome difficulties of the shortage of ground control points and the hardship of data acquirements.
