Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
The Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing is a branch of CASM, with primary responsibility to conduct the basic and applied research on the photogrammetry and remote sensing, and serve the technology need and interests of the related communities in China.
The institute is in an active growth phase, with 24 faculty and 32 graduate students. Presently, the institute focuses researches on methods for analysis and utilization of both airborne and spaceborne imagery, which span the spectrum from the visible/near infrared (VNIR) to the microwave (radar), for mapping and investigation purposes; and concentrates its efforts on four main topics: satellite photogrammetry,SAR images analyses and processes, remote sensing information processing and resource/environment monitoring. Up to now, the research achievements have been widely adopted in various applications, such as State Spatial Information Grid construction, digital survey system development and land resources management.
In addition to implementing research projects, the institute is in a fund-raising campaign to increase its number of professorship, scholarships, as well as generate funding for much needed facilities renovation. With the faculty’s effort and the authority’s support, the upcoming years will be exciting ones of new beginnings with discussions of potential future paths for continued excellence.
