Professor Long Ying from Tsinghua University made academic report in CASM

April 13th, invited by Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing of CASM, Professor Long Ying from Tsinghua University made academic report named Quantitative research on urban space in China in the era of big data, and researchers and graduates from related units listened to the report.
Professor Long Ying focused on interdisciplinary approach to quantify the dynamics of urban development, to provide a reliable basis for better urban planning and management and finally establish the methodology foundation for sustainable urban development.
In the report, Long Ying introduced application of big data in urban planning implementation evaluation, which is the actual effect of urban planning on the control of space, especially on urban growth boundary (UGB) how to guide the urban space development direction. Previous research used to evaluate the consistency of the planning and implementation (conformity)with satellite remote sensing data, while the new data environment provides a new perspective for the evaluation of urban planning implementation. The research on the methodology emphasized the quantitative modeling of multi scale cities with the guidance of human settlements science, for example put forward the Big Model together with other advocates. This is a typical quantitative study on city research, which carried out a number of precise case studies for all urban cities in China, such as land scale urban expansion simulation of all cities in china, PM2.5 population exposure assessment in the township street offices scale, public transportation coverage level evaluation, and population density change and urban pattern.
Long Ying also exchanged ideas and discussed on hot issues such as National Geographic Conditions Monitoring, Internet + with the researchers in CASM. (Article by Ning Xiaogang)
